Editing!

Editing a modern digital photograph, is a similar process to developing an analogue photograph.
Initially I make a photo as a RAW image. This allows the digital file to contain as much information from the original exposure as possible.
The first level edit is done with the RAW file. I colour balance, crop out any unwanted peripheral mess, adjust exposure and adjust “levels& Curves”. Occasionally I adjust a bit of contrast and brightness.
This is my standard edit, which I do with a lot of the photos I make. Sometimes a photo needs little or nothing doing to it. Star or Milky Way photos need it all doing! I include this level of editing with all my shoots, as I have to convert the image from RAW to JPEG for the client to be able to see the image. This level of editing is included with all my photography packages.

The second or advanced level of editing is much more complex, and involves using purpose made photo editing software, I use Evoto.
Evoto is blissfully quick at correcting skin blemishes, smoothing clothing, removing stray hairs, changing the background, so on and so forth. However, it still takes a lot of time and concentration. The software is also expensive. Therefore I charge £15.00 per photo for this level.
Some software can alter a persons body shape and can composite photos, making an image out of several other images, I don’t do this.

This second level of editing is not included in any of my packages. It is charged per photo, the editing is completed once the payment is received.
